A Little Bit About Me

Mugshot

With a sporting background in university rowing, followed by several years in the IT industry, I first qualified as a Personal Trainer before going on to learn Sports Massage. The original intention was to offer it as an additional service to my fitness clients, but I now do more of this than the training.

Personal Training and Sports Massage go together well, and not just because I can break people in one discipline and try to mend them in the other. Both require a detailed knowledge of human anatomy, mechanics of sports, stretching techniques, the body's energy systems etc..

I am a Level 4 Member of the Sports Massage Association (the highest level they offer), having a University Certificate of Professional Development (UCAPD) in Massage in a Sports Environment. My clients have come from a wide range of sporting and non-sporting backgrounds: from boxing to bowling, rugby to rambling, and tennis to triathlon. They include a number of sports and fitness professionals, and I'm pleased to say that I've worked on the muscles of a few British champions and Olympic hopefuls. The majority of my clients, however, are just moderately active people who've picked up a few aches and pains along the way; many of them do no sports at all.

I am also a Level 3 Certified Personal Trainer, which means I am wise in the ways of:

  • Health, Fitness, and Lifestyle Analysis
  • Advanced Exercise and Fitness Knowledge
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Training
  • Advanced Resistance Training
  • Nutrition and Weight Management

Every Wednesday evening I run a running group for the ladies of Winchcombe, details of which can be found at wwwg.co.uk.

I'm also involved in Walking for Health, which sees me leading a short (50-60 minute) weekly walk in an around Winchcombe. These are free of charge and designed to be accessible to anyone who could do with a bit of light exercise. So, if you fancy a walk in good company, please drop by (10:30 start every Thursday morning outside the Plaisterer's Arms; rain or shine).

I am fully insured, and even have one of those new-fangled CRB checks. References are available on request.
